Over the years Shades of Noir has developed an emancipatory consultancy practice that supports institutional and individual change through a collaborative approach. We have worked with a number of institutions across the country in this capacity.
An emancipatory approach is one that facilitates praxis, by first, encouraging educators, researchers, and clinicians to develop an awareness that injustice exists and thereafter, through the process of reflexivity, they deeply examine the processes of power that create injustice and engage in action that would lead to transformation in support of a social justice agenda.
Our consultancy is available to all sectors, organisations and institutions and if you would like to find out more about our consultancy programme please contact us at info@shadesofnoir.org.uk.
Our Consultancy Components
What sets our practice-based research apart is its positioning as emancipatory?
Shades of Noir offers enhanced consultation in intersectional social justice and anti-racism.
As a community, we recognise that research and herstories/histories/theirstories inform all the work that we do, and we are proud to consistently deliver ‘tailored’ interventions that inform mainstream activity across sectors. This is now being adapted and delivered for a number of institutions and organisations. We take pride in being specialist(s) in critical, transformative and emancipatory activities, and sharing this with our many partners.
Our related consultancy service(s) and support include education and development through dialogue, problem-solving and critical thinking. Additionally, we help to foster proactive enhanced relationships through the framework of people, policy and process which adopts meaningful approaches that take account of the social, cultural, political and historical experiences of the trainees as experts in the field, fused with the mission, values and legacy of Shades of Noir – revealing the ongoing relationship and synergy between the programmes of work past and present. This includes a multiplicity of methods responding to, but not limited to, the critique of current policies, the review of a range of business strategies and practices, collaboration, pastoral and academic advice, support and development.
We are also advocates for marginalised and underprivileged communities in facilitating a direct link with research with key senior stakeholders in the institution. Recognising the politics of cultural currency, we choose only to facilitate the autonomy of such communities, resulting in processes that have been proven effective in transforming, reimagining and inspiring new ways of thinking and doing.
