Interview with Charlene White — journalist and newsreader, ITV News
Charlene was a presenter and senior broadcast journalist at BBC Look East, Radio 5 Live Morning Reports, BBC Three 60 Seconds and BBC News. She also had her own late night talk show on BBC London 94.9.
In 2002 she joined Radio 1 Newsbeat and its sister digital station BBC Radio 1Xtra as a reporter. In 2005 she teamed up with DJ G Money as presenter on 1Xtra’s 2-hour news, magazine and documentary programme TX. She has also previously worked as a reporter and producer for ITV News Meridian on ITV Meridian in Kent.
In 2008, she joined ITN – as a newscaster for the ITV News at 5:30 on ITV a role she continued until 10 October 2012, months before the shows ending. During her time on the ITV News at 5:30, she became a regular presenter of ITVLondon News across a wide range of the news output. Later she also started presenting the ITV News Weekend Daytime bulletins on a rotation basis. She remains as an occasional newscaster of ITV News weekend bulletins and a stand-in presenter/newsreader of ITV News London on ITV London.
On 9 April 2014, Charlene White became the first black woman to present ITV’s News at Ten. She has since continued to relief host many ITV National News bulletins. As of July 2014, she can be regularly seen hosting weekend evening ITV News programmes, the weekday ITV News at 1:30 and ITV News London evening programme, as well as relief presenting the main weekday programmes ITV News at 6:30 and ITV News at Ten.
