Recognising that a strong network, proactivity and experience are crucial to succeeding in any creative industry. KNKTU, pronounced “Connect-to” is an initiative that was birthed by UAL students towards the end of March 2017. It has expanded out to young people outside of the university, through building organic connections. The project has been spearheaded by Loren Platt, alumni of London College of Communication and co-founder of Work It, a successful night in London that has been running for 9 years.
I have had the pleasure of being a part of this creative community, supporting both individual and collective projects. As a collective we are gifted in a range of crafts; from journalism, to music production, to animation and graphic design. The one thing we all have in common is our passion for music; all artists, performers, DJ’s, producers and tastemakers in our own right.
Through KNKTU, we aim to build valuable enterprising and entrepreneurial skills, for the enhancement of our individual careers. Our first project exists under the name ‘GAMEOVER’. It is an event that will mark the beginning of all our future ventures.
GAMEOVER is essentially a launch night, where we are inviting our networks to enjoy live performances, an eclectic line up of DJ’s and a specially curated gaming room. Funded by UAL’s Careers and Employability team, as an initiative that encourages the self-sufficiency and DIY spirit that many of UAL students have.
We want to create a space where people can have the freedom to be themselves and have fun. This night is vital to setting the momentum for KNKTU, and will take place on Monday May 8th, at Corsica Studios in the heart of Elephant & Castle!
You can get “free before 11pm” tickets to GAMEOVER here!
