Join us for the CIAD winter exchange where we discuss the politics of wearing the ubiquitous west African print which is often used in colourful Spring/ Summer wear, in clothing designed for cold weather.
Does wearing the same or similar fabric for all seasons suggest that consumers do not know or are not engaging in the richness of African textiles; some of which is much more suitable for cold climates? When wanting to identify with an African aesthetic is it easier to reach for Ankara as it is so popular and widely spread, even though the fabric is not always suitable for the climate we live in?
These and other questions will be deliberated in our lively and engaging discussion, followed by seasonal refreshments and networking.
