Already Here

This year SUARTS will be holding its 3rd annual (open-submission) exhibition which exclusively features the work of Black students and graduates of UAL:  this year it is titled “Already Here

The exhibition will be taking place from 11th September – 27th October in the Window Galleries at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design. We are holding it in conjunction with the exhibition “Happening To Be” which will be situated in the Lethaby Gallery and the project Shades of Noir.

This years exhibition will be bigger and better offering selected artists the chance to showcase their work to a wide and diverse audience:

  • The work to be displayed during the “Design and Emotion London Conference 2012” which will provide the opportunity for “Already Here” to be seen by over “300 international academics, industry practitioners, researchers and students across different industry sectors.”
  • Work will be displayed during SUARTS Freshers Festival and throughout the start of the new academic year.
  • Also the selected work will be considered by a panel of industry experts as to if it can be listed on Made In Arts London

We also believe it is a great opportunity to educate and inspire positive change within the university.

How To Enter:

“Already Here” is a multi-layered concept which foremost aims to provide a platform for emerging Black artists and designers to exhibit their work at a time when the world is looking to London to showcase its talent and creativity.  We also hope to explore the mainstream dialogues and epistemological approaches which influence the decisions around the curriculum in Arts institutions that too often result in the work of Black artists and creative practitioners being overlooked.

We are looking for any BAME students (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) either currently studying or recently graduated (2010 onwards) to submit their work for consideration.  We can offer a platform for almost anything from fine art, photography and fashion design to sculpture and video art. However there is no option of playing sound so please bear that in mind if you are submitting a video.

Deadline for submission is Monday 3rd September 5pm.

If you have any questions at all or you would like to know more about the dimensions of the gallery space then please do not hesitate to contact Fairooz on culture-diversity@su.arts.ac.uk
