A Charlie Phillips Take Over will take place on Saturday 17 June, 12.00pm-6.00pm.
For one-day only, to celebrate the launch of the Charlie Phillips Roots Archive, Charlie Philips is the guest curator at Black Cultural Archives. Join Charlie Phillips and friends for a day of talks, films, and music. You are invited to bring along your own objects, heirlooms, and photographs to share stories and memories.
A Jamaican-born Londoner, Charlie is best known for his photographs documenting 60 years of Black life in London. Charlies’ photographs are in the major collections including the V&A and the Tate museum, art historian Simon Schama called him “arguably the most important (yet least lauded) Black British photographer of his generation”. The Charlie Phillips Roots Archive will preserve and provide access to his work for future generations.
